Hi, my name is Shirley and the curious doggy pictured above with my partner is the third member of our family, Max. I am the founder of Waggy Walks in Wakey, not only borne from the love of dogs who have been a big part of my life, but also the great outdoors which both my partner and I enjoy whenever we can.
My partner and I met several years ago through our love of running and are both active, outdoorsy people and members of the National Trust. In May 2018, Walton seemed the perfect location to settle down, so we did and in November 2018 to share our lifestyle we decided to offer a home to a rescue dog. On our first visit to Dogs Trust we met an 18 month old Lurcher called Malcolm (yes ,Malcolm, but soon renamed to Max) who had been brought to the centre by the Dog Warden as a stray from Leeds. He was extremely underweight, very timid and had no idea of how to play or what fun was, yet his puppy like boisterousness and lovely temperament shone through and we knew we had to give him a second chance.
With the help of some training, love and patience, Max soon became an integral part of our family and we fell in love with him and the rest, as they say, is history. So this is why we totally understand your need to find the right complimentary care for your furry loved one.
Becoming a dog walker is a lifestyle change from my previous career in finance, I love the outdoors and being a professional dog walker for those times when you aren't around is as enjoyable for me as it is for your furry loved ones. As such, I believe 1-2-1 walking gives the opportunity to focus on providing the best service possible for those doggies who can be a little anxious around others. Although I don't offer group walks, siblings and known doggy friends are always welcome to join in
Since childhood, dogs and their welfare have always been a part of my family. I know that your dog deserves the highest quality care and that is where I can help support a healthy lifestyle by offering a quality pet sitting and one to one dog walking out and about in the Wakefield area.
I also know from experience that your devoted dog is a loved and valued member of your family, that is why I am FULLY INSURED and DBS CHECKED to give you confidence you can rely on me whilst your dog is in my care.
I understand that sometimes looking after your dogs' well-being can be difficult. To help support you, I provide a dog walking and pet service I would expect our own dog to receive and so I recommend an introductory walk to help lay the foundations for a long lasting, valuable relationship.
Although I specialise in 1-2-1 walks, I do offer walks with siblings and known friends and so still support canine social skills which are something every dog has to learn and come to enjoy, just like any human.
A valuable insight taught by Dog Trust is dogs learn everything about their four-legged new acquaintance in the first few seconds of meeting them. I call it the '3 second rule', one quick sniff front and back and they know all they need to know about the potential friend in front of them, then I turn them away. Anything more should be nurtured, just like any human friendship.
